The Zamfara State chapters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) are embroiled in a dispute over an attempt by hoodlums to burn the residence of Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, during the ongoing hunger protests.
During a press conference on Friday, APC Publicity Secretary Alhaji Yusuf Idris accused the state’s PDP chapter of attempting to incite its supporters to attack Minister Bello Matawalle and other key APC stakeholders during the protests.
Idris claimed that PDP officials had intended to hijack the peaceful protests to target and destroy the properties of prominent APC leaders in the state, but their plans were thwarted by the swift intervention of security personnel.

Idris said, “The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress is disturbed by the dimension the nationwide supposed peaceful protest took in the state.
“This is because we observed that many PDP thugs were strategically deployed to attack, maim, and destroy personalities and properties of the APC.
“Most disturbing was how, on the first day of the protest, today, Thursday, the already known PDP thugs aimed at the former governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle’s residence for destruction if not for the quick intervention of security personnel who blocked them.”

Idris stated that PDP thugs also targeted the residence of APC Senator Alhaji Sahabi Yau, who represents the Zamfara North Senatorial Zone, causing extensive damage, including the destruction of a vehicle.
He said, “The PDP also attacked the residence of Senator Sahabi Yau in his hometown of Kaura Namoda, where they destroyed many valuables and damaged his Toyota Hilux in the name of a peaceful protest.”
In response, the state’s acting PDP chairman, Muktar Lugga, dismissed the APC’s allegations as baseless.
Lugga emphasized, “As a peace-loving and responsible government, Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration would never plan to attack anyone or incite confusion in the state.”
He said, “The allegation is baseless and unfounded.”
“Let me remind the APC that this is not the time for politicking.”
“Instead of shifting unnecessary blames, let us collectively come together to support President Tinubu to address the issues at the right time.”
He asserted that the APC was making baseless accusations because they had failed miserably in Zamfara State.
He advised the APC to wait until 2027, stating, “This is not the time for politicking.”
He also urged PDP members to refrain from spreading claims that the Defence Minister’s house was nearly attacked, crediting the quick intervention of security personnel for preventing any incident.
“This is shameful as you are exposing the Minister’s unpopularity in his home state.”
