Morocco’s Royal Court has declared that the “bonds of African brotherhood will naturally prevail” despite the “shameful incidents” that occurred during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final between the host nation and Senegal.
In an official statement released on Thursday via the Royal Moroccan Football Federation’s X handle, the Court conveyed King Mohammed VI’s appreciation to the Moroccan public for ensuring the tournament was a success.
The Court noted that the competition “will remain a landmark in the history of continental competition,” adding that “it reflected the Kingdom’s qualitative leap on the path of development and progress.”

The statement addressed the chaotic final at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, where Senegal secured a 1-0 victory in extra time.
The match was marred by controversy after a disallowed Senegalese goal and a late penalty awarded to Morocco led to Senegal coach Pape Thiaw ordering a walk-off.
Morocco’s coach, Walid Regragui, labeled the move “shameful,” and the ensuing fan unrest and clashes with police further delayed the game.
Despite these “unfortunate events,” the Royal Court emphasized that “once the tension and emotions subside, the bonds of African brotherhood will naturally prevail.”
The statement dismissed external criticism, asserting that “in the face of defamation and attempts to undermine credibility,” the King remains certain that “hostile schemes will never achieve their aims.”
The Court maintained that “nothing can harm the close ties woven over centuries between our African peoples,” and reaffirmed that Morocco remains “faithful to the spirit of brotherhood, solidarity, and respect it has always shown towards its continent.”
King Mohammed VI also praised the national team, now ranked eighth globally, stating that their success is a result of “proactive sports policies” and the “dedication of Moroccan players from around the globe.”
