An Oyigbo High Court in Rivers State has suspended indefinitely the legal challenge brought by Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, regarding the impeachment attempt initiated by the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Justice Florence Fiberesima opted to adjourn the case “sine die” after learning that two separate appeals had been filed concerning the matter.
The court noted that this pause would “allow the Court of Appeal to first determine the issues before it” before the lower court proceeds.

During the session, the lead counsel for Speaker Martin Amaewhule and 27 other legislators, S.I. Amen (SAN), formally requested a stay of proceedings due to the active appeals.
This move was not contested by Paul Orikoro (SAN), representing the Governor, nor by Lawrence Oko-Jaja (SAN), who represents other defendants including Victor Oko-Jumbo.
This indefinite delay follows a prior interim injunction from the same court, which had successfully restrained the Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, several lawmakers, the Clerk of the House, and the Chief Judge of the state from taking further steps toward the impeachment.
That earlier ruling effectively blocked any attempt at forwarding or consideration of impeachment notices or related documents for the purpose of constituting an investigative panel over alleged gross misconduct.
The suspension means the political battle remains in a legal stalemate until the appellate court delivers its judgment.
