Nollywood filmmaker and actor Stanley Amandi has been arrested in connection with the alleged violent plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration, according to an exclusive report by PREMIUM TIMES.
Amandi, a well-known director and former chairperson of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Enugu State Chapter, was taken into custody in September 2025.

This marks the first time his involvement in the alleged coup attempt has been made public.
Investigators believe the actor was “hired to play the role of a propagandist by the alleged coupists who planned to assassinate top government officials last year.”
The scope of the alleged plot was severe, with sources indicating that the conspirators had marked several high-ranking leaders for elimination, including President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
The Defence Headquarters confirmed on Monday that its investigation into the plan to illegally oust the government is now complete.
The military stated that the findings have been forwarded to the “appropriate superior authority in line with extant regulations.”
They described the conduct of the indicted personnel as “inconsistent with the ethics, values and professional standards required of members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”
While PREMIUM TIMES previously reported that 16 officers were under investigation, it has now emerged that more officers and civilians were subsequently arrested.
Military suspects are expected to face “court martials before possible civil proceedings,” while civilians like Mr. Amandi will be prosecuted in civil courts.
Before his arrest, Amandi was a prominent figure in the film industry, known for his work on projects such as “The Album,” “Tiger King,” and the 2024 film “Once Upon a Dream.”
His social media activity ceased abruptly on 19 September 2025, just before he was detained.
