Turaki-Led PDP Reacts To Reports On Court Judgment Concerning Ibadan Convention

The Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its intention to challenge a Friday ruling by the Federal High Court in Ibadan after the court declined to issue an order of mandamus.

The court explained its refusal by stating that granting the order would be equivalent to “sitting on appeal” over decisions made by courts of equal authority.

In a statement released via X on Friday, January 30, 2026, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, noted that the verdict was “not unexpected” and confirmed that the legal team has been directed to file an immediate appeal.

Despite the judicial setback, the faction maintains that its leadership, established at the Ibadan Convention, is still legally sound.

The statement reassured supporters by saying, “Notwithstanding this judgment, the Kabiru Turaki–led Peoples Democratic Party, which emerged from the Ibadan Convention, remains legally intact and unshaken, as we await the authoritative pronouncement of the appellate courts.”

The party further encouraged its followers to stay composed, stressing that the “rebirth movement remains firmly on course.”

Addressing concerns of instability within the ranks, the statement added: “We therefore urge our members to remain resolute and committed, as there is absolutely no cause for alarm. The rebirth movement remains firmly on course.”

This legal battle is the latest chapter in the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP, as rival factions continue to fight for official recognition and legitimacy ahead of future elections.
