Abubakar Malami (SAN), the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has declared that he has no regrets regarding his actions while in office.
Malami made these remarks following his recent release from prison custody, where he had been remanded due to money laundering charges brought against him, his wife, and his son by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Reflecting on his recent legal troubles, which included time spent in the custody of the EFCC, the DSS, and at Kuje Prison, Malami stated: “I believe it is all God’s will and I accept it, but I will defend myself against the allegations.”

He specifically accused security agencies of violating his constitutional rights during their investigations, asserting: “They violated my rights by searching my houses and business premises without notifying me during the investigation.”
He further explained: “Constitutionally, I have the right to be present during a search to oversee the investigation of my property and to know exactly what is being looked for or taken.”
Despite these challenges, he maintained: “I have no regrets regarding what I did during my time as a minister.”
In a formal statement released after regaining his freedom, the former minister expressed appreciation to those who supported him, saying: “To friends and political associates within and outside Nigeria, I thank you for standing on the side of fairness, justice, and the rule of law. I remain resolute in my confidence that truth will prevail, justice will endure, and integrity will outlive every orchestrated distraction.”
Malami also framed his situation as part of a larger national struggle, claiming: “However, beyond gratitude lies a greater responsibility. The struggle for justice, accountability, and national redemption is only just beginning. Today, our country faces one of the gravest moments in its history.”
He concluded with a call to action for his fellow citizens: “I therefore invite all well-meaning Nigerians to join me in this noble task of rebuilding hope, restoring justice, and defending the dignity of our great nation. Let it be clearly understood that the struggle is just beginning, and together we must rise with courage, conviction, and faith to reclaim the promise of Nigeria.”
