Concerned residents in Katsina State gathered on Tuesday at the Katsina Arabic Teachers College Playground and three other open spaces in the state capital to seek divine intervention for the ongoing economic hardship, insecurity, and poor governance affecting the country.

The prayers, which were attended by people of all genders amid tight security, were conducted peacefully.

The residents prayed for Almighty Allah to alleviate the economic difficulties, hunger, insecurity, and governance issues plaguing the nation.

They also called upon Allah to eliminate those responsible for the nation’s problems, including politicians, traditional title holders, business leaders, security personnel, clerics, and even members of society at large.

The residents performed the Al-Qunut Prayer, a special supplication often recited during times of calamity. Similar prayers were held early Monday morning at the Filin Samji, Filin Yammawa, and Filin Canada football grounds.

“We came here to worship God and pray for Him to wipe away our tears,” said one of the participants.

The gatherings come ahead of nationwide prayers organized by the End Bad Governance Protests, scheduled for Saturday, August 10th, 2024, across various mosques and churches.

This follows violent protests in the state, which led the state government to impose a curfew.

However, on Tuesday morning, the Acting Governor of Katsina State, Faruk Jobe, relaxed the 24-hour movement restriction in Dutsinma Local Government Area and 33 other local government areas in the state.
