Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, the mother of Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has passed away.
While specific details regarding her death were limited at the time of the report, she reportedly died on Friday afternoon.
The news was officially confirmed by her grandson, Hon. Bello El-Rufai, who shared a tribute on Facebook.
In his announcement, Bello wrote, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. From Allah SWT we came and to Him we shall all return. I would like to inform the public of the demise of my Grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai who passed away a few hours ago.”
He further noted that she was the biological mother of Nasir El-Rufai, adding, “We are grateful for the life she lived and may Allah SWT bless her gentle soul. May He bless the soul of the parents we have lost. On behalf of our family, we seek your prayers.”
This bereavement occurs while Malam Nasir El-Rufai is currently in custody.
Following a month in detention, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) arraigned him on 10 counts related to the alleged conversion of public property and money laundering.
Despite the former governor pleading not guilty to all charges, he remains in custody.
Following arguments from both the defense and prosecution on Tuesday, Justice Rilwanu Aikawa of the Federal High Court in Kaduna scheduled the hearing for his bail application for March 31.
