Rotimi Amaechi, the former Governor of Rivers State, has claimed that former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife were responsible for his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during a period of intense political friction in the state.
Speaking on Channels Television this Friday, the former Minister of Transportation—who has since joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—stated that he was essentially coerced into leaving the PDP after the party’s hierarchy in Rivers State was seized from him.
“I was literally chased out of the PDP… the president, Goodluck and his wife, took over the political structure in Rivers state and forced me out. The same thing happened in APC,” Amaechi remarked.

Refusing to be silenced, he added, “I will never keep quiet in the face of injustice. When I speak up, they begin to plan to make me irrelevant.”
Amaechi’s departure from the PDP traces back to 2013, following his suspension for alleged anti-party conduct. He subsequently became a prominent leader in the “new PDP” (nPDP) faction, which eventually merged with other parties to establish the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This alliance famously went on to defeat Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 elections, with Amaechi playing a pivotal role in Muhammadu Buhari’s victory.
