The Supreme Court of Nigeria has set April 22 as the date to hear the appeals regarding the ongoing leadership battle within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The legal challenge was initiated by a PDP faction led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties, who is contesting the Court of Appeal’s March 9 verdicts.
On Tuesday, a five-judge Supreme Court panel, chaired by Justice Mohammed Garba, approved a request for an accelerated hearing.
To speed up the process, the court shortened the timeline for legal filings, ordering the respondents to submit their briefs within five days and giving the appellants two days to provide a response.

These appeals seek to overturn appellate court decisions that upheld earlier Federal High Court rulings.
Those rulings, delivered by Justices James Omotosho and Peter Lifu, blocked the PDP from holding its national convention, citing a failure to follow the Electoral Act and internal party rules.
The original lawsuits were filed by dissatisfied party members, including former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido.
Tuesday’s court session saw the attendance of several high-profile figures, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Turaki himself.
