Tinubu Appoints DG For Women Development Centre

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially approved the appointment of Ms. Adedayo Benjamin Laniyi as the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development.

The appointment is for an initial four-year term and took effect on April 18, 2026.

This move was confirmed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume.

According to a statement by the Head of Information and Public Relations, Chris Ugwuegbulam, the President’s decision follows the legal guidelines of the National Centre for Women Development (Amendment) Act, 2023.

“President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Ms. Adedayo Benjamin Laniyi as the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer… and the members of the Governing Council for an initial term of four years,” the statement read.

In addition to the new DG, the President approved a new Governing Council for the centre, which will be led by Princess Joan Jummai Idonije as Chairman.

The other newly appointed board members include:

  • Ms. Lois Auta

  • Hon. Jamila Sarki

  • Aisha Baiyee

  • Hon. Jumoke Okoya-Thomas

  • Hon. Princess Anne Agom-Eze

President Tinubu congratulated the new leadership team, wishing them success in their mission to drive gender equality and socio-economic empowerment for women across Nigeria.

The Maryam Babangida Centre remains the nation’s primary institution for research, training, and advocacy on women-related issues.
