The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of Abdulrahman Mohammed, has officially announced its former Cross River State governorship candidate, Senator Sandy Onor, as the party’s consensus presidential candidate for the upcoming 2027 general election.
The official announcement was made on Tuesday at the Wadata Plaza national secretariat in Abuja by the Chairman of the PDP Presidential Primaries Collation Committee and former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, during the collation and presentation of the primary results.
According to members of the collation committee, the selection process was finalized following extensive consultations and voice votes conducted among party members across all states of the federation.

Senator Onor emerged as the sole presidential aspirant for the ticket after formally declaring his intention to vie for the 2027 presidency and picking up both his expression of interest and nomination forms earlier this month.
Speaking at the event, Ortom explained that the committee had spent time engaging thoroughly with party members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), successfully reaching a unanimous consensus before making the final declaration.

He subsequently presented Senator Sandy Onor to stakeholders as the PDP’s official flagbearer for the 2027 presidential poll.
The entire process was closely monitored at the party’s national headquarters by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), including National Commissioners Abdullahi Zuru and Prof. Rhoda Habor Gumus.
Following the formal declaration, the national leadership of the PDP presented Senator Sandy Onor with his certificate of return alongside the party’s official flag, solidifying his position as the presidential candidate.
