Army Opens Up On Report Alleging Killing Of General And Abduction Of His Wife Near Abuja

The Nigerian Army has dismissed as false a social media report claiming the recent killing of its former Provost Marshal, Major General Hassan Ahmed, and the abduction of his wife near Abuja.

The Army explained that the report currently being circulated online is a recycled account of an incident that happened back in 2021, describing its renewed circulation as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and create panic.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Army clarified that the tragic attack on the late senior officer actually took place on July 15, 2021, along the Abuja–Lokoja Road.

It added that security agencies thoroughly investigated the incident at the time, which led to the arrest of the assailants and subsequent legal action.

The statement read: “The Nigerian Army has noted with concern a misleading social media report currently circulating, falsely claiming the recent killing of Late Major General Hassan Ahmed and the abduction of his wife near Abuja. This report is completely false and is a deliberate attempt to mislead the public. For the avoidance of doubt, the tragic incident involving Late Major General Hassan Ahmed occurred on 15 July 2021 along the Abuja–Lokoja Road. Security agencies promptly investigated the matter, leading to the arrest of the assailants and the due administration of justice.”

The Army strongly condemned what it described as the irresponsible recycling of the old incident, stating that the action was intended to distort facts and undermine public confidence.

Members of the public were urged to completely disregard the report and avoid sharing unverified or outdated information across social media platforms.

The Army also reaffirmed its commitment to its constitutional responsibilities of defending the nation’s territorial integrity and maintaining peace and security across the country.
