The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has officially welcomed the lawmaker representing Makoda State Constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly, Muhammad Ahmad Tomas, back into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This move marks yet another significant shift in the ever-changing political landscape of Kano State as political heavyweights position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Tomas, who had only recently defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), announced his decision to return to the APC during a courtesy visit to Senator Barau’s private residence in Abuja on Monday.

The lawmaker was accompanied on the visit by the Executive Chairmen of Makoda and Dambatta Local Government Areas, Alhaji Isa Currency and Alhaji Jamilu Abubakar Dambatta.

In a statement he personally signed on Monday, the Deputy Senate President described Tomas’ return to the party’s fold as both timely and highly significant.

He noted that the lawmaker’s choice reflects a strong dedication to driving real development.

“Today, I had the honour of receiving back Hon. Muhammad Ahmad Tomas, member of the Kano State House of Assembly representing Makoda State Constituency, to our great party, the All Progressives Congress, from the Nigeria Democratic Congress,” Barau said.

He went on to state that the lawmaker’s U-turn back to the ruling party will greatly boost the APC’s political influence and standing within the Kano North Senatorial District and across Kano State as a whole.

“His foresight in realigning with the APC demonstrates his commitment to progress and good governance,” he said.

Senator Barau further assured the returning legislator that he would enjoy equal opportunities and a level playing field within the party.

He then called on all existing APC members to remain united and steadfast as political activities begin to heat up for future elections.

“Together, we will continue to work tirelessly for the growth and success of our party, Kano North Senatorial District, Kano State and Nigeria as a whole,” he added.
