A young boy identified as Umar, from Magami town in the Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, has vowed to join the Nigerian Army to seek justice for his father, who was allegedly murdered by suspected bandits.
This tragic account emerged from a video shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday by Bakatsine, a journalist known for reporting on conflict and security issues in Nigeria’s North-West region.
In the video, the young boy narrated the harrowing experience of witnessing his father’s killing, a trauma that has fueled his resolve to become a soldier.
Speaking in Hausa during the interview, Umar explained that his father was attacked and killed shortly after returning from the market.
According to the boy, his father had harvested seven baskets of red pepper, sold them, and used the proceeds to purchase essential food items, including rice, for the family.
“He came back after harvesting seven baskets of pepper. He bought food items and rice for us. He wanted us to cook and eat together, but as he was returning from the farm, they killed him,” Umar recounted.
The boy further alleged that the attackers did not stop at taking his father’s life; they also forced their way into their home and assaulted other members of the household.
When asked about his future, Umar stated firmly that he wants to become a soldier, explaining that the loss of his father is the primary inspiration behind his ambition.
He expressed a deep-seated desire to take action against those responsible for the violence, while also offering prayers for God’s mercy upon his father and the many other victims of similar attacks in the region.
