The Benin Electric Distribution Company (BEDC) has confirmed that one of its technical staff members sustained injuries following an electrical incident while carrying out operational tasks in Ekiti State.

The incident was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday in Benin by the company’s Head of Branding and Corporate Communications, Mrs. Evelyn Gbiwen.

According to the report, the accident occurred at approximately 6:20 p.m. on Saturday within the Ado-Poly Satellite Campus area of Ado-Ekiti.

The injured employee, identified as technical linesman Mr. Akinyemi Bamidele, suffered burns to his arm and other parts of his body after experiencing an electric shock while working on the 11kV Basiri Feeder following a scheduled maintenance exercise.

Following the incident, Bamidele was promptly rushed to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) in Ado-Ekiti for urgent medical care. Officials have confirmed that he is currently in a stable condition and responding positively to treatment.

Reassuring the public and staff, Mrs. Gbiwen stated:“BEDC Electricity Plc remains committed to the safety and well-being of its employees and is providing the necessary support to the injured staff member during this period.”

She added that the management has initiated a full-scale internal investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, promising that appropriate administrative and safety measures will be implemented based on the final findings.
