The Federal Government has assured public servants that the outstanding wage award will be paid before the middle of August.
Promotion arrears are also being processed as part of ongoing efforts to fulfil commitments to workers.
This assurance was given during a meeting between the Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, and the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JPSNC).
The trade side delegation was led by its National President, Kabiru Minjibir.
A statement issued on Wednesday by Efe Ovuakporie noted that the government had begun addressing many issues even before receiving formal communication.
The minister reiterated the administration’s commitment to resolving legitimate labour concerns through constructive engagement.
“When government makes commitments, it delivers. We are not in the habit of making promises that cannot be fulfilled. Where there are outstanding issues, we will give realistic timelines and ensure they are implemented,” the minister said.
He disclosed that necessary approvals for the outstanding wage award are being finalised.
Eligible public servants will begin receiving payments before the middle of August.
The minister also assured the delegation that outstanding promotion arrears are receiving required attention.
Pending batches are being processed in line with established procedures.
He directed relevant officials to review all documents and expedite action on outstanding matters.
While acknowledging delays, the minister assured workers that trust will be strengthened through transparency and prompt action.
“Our objective is to build a system where issues are resolved proactively. We want workers to have confidence that once government gives its word, it will honour that commitment,” he added.
Earlier, JPSNC President Kabiru Minjibir commended the minister and appealed for the speedy resolution of all labour issues.
He said timely implementation would strengthen industrial harmony and boost workers’ confidence.
Permanent Secretary Raymond Omachi reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to releasing workers’ entitlements without avoidable delays.
Permanent Secretary for Special Duties, Mohammed Danjuma, disclosed that Batch 7 and Batch 9 promotion arrears are now being processed.
He added that the government is working to resolve issues relating to the Peculiar Allowance.
Director Christiana Osho stated that reconciliation of the wage award has been completed and fund release is at the final stage.
Both the Federal Government and the JPSNC reaffirmed their commitment to sustained dialogue and industrial harmony.
