Prof. Christopher Imumolen, who ran as the presidential standard-bearer for the Accord Party, has clarified his choice to exit the upcoming 2027 presidential contest and back President Bola Tinubu, noting that he acted because he feels the leader’s governance strategies and direction favor Nigeria’s future.

During a media briefing held in Ikeja, Lagos State, over the weekend, Imumolen stated that his choice stemmed from the belief that the peace, cohesion, and growth of Nigeria must come before individual political goals.

He noted that he evaluated ten separate elements prior to dropping out of the contest, which included what he categorized as the Tinubu administration’s push to restructure the nation via various initiatives and structural shifts.

“This decision was not borne out of personal interest but from a deep conviction that the unity, stability, and continued progress of Nigeria must take precedence over personal political ambition,” he said.

Imumolen argued that Tinubu has exhibited the aptitude to bring the nation together and warrants backing to solidify his government’s initiatives.

“If there is one man that can unite Nigeria, we have to give it to him. Tinubu has proved he has the capacity to emancipate Nigeria,” he said.

While recognizing that alternative presidential contenders are getting ready for the 2027 polls, Imumolen doubted their competence to create and execute strategies capable of tackling Nigeria’s difficulties to the degree he feels the current administration is achieving.

He admitted that certain current government policies have brought brief discomfort, yet maintained that the steps will yield superior results for the country in the long run.

Imumolen also commended Tinubu’s political background and governance traits, pointing out that the President has shown the talent to forge agreements, foster national harmony, pick competent people, and execute tough choices.

He mentioned that Tinubu’s focus on structural modifications, deliberate direction, and persistence brings assurance regarding Nigeria’s extended development and steadiness.

“President Tinubu has shown remarkable ability to identify capable individuals, build consensus, promote national unity, and make difficult decisions in the best interest of the nation,” he said.

Imumolen additionally revealed that his exit from the presidential race received approval from the upper echelons of the Accord Party, portraying the choice to back Tinubu as a deliberate concession executed for the country’s welfare.

“Our decision to withdraw our presidential candidature and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a deliberate sacrifice made in the interest of Nigeria. History will always remember those who placed national progress above personal ambition,” he said.
