Kano Lawmaker Dumps APC

Sule Lawan Shuwaki, the legislator representing Tudun Wada Constituency within the Kano State House of Assembly, has formally withdrawn his membership from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Shuwaki’s resignation letter was presented during the assembly plenary session on Monday by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ismail Falgore, where his transition to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was formally made known.

Within the correspondence, the politician explained that his choice stemmed from “deep reflection and extensive consultation” involving his political allies, constituents, and relatives.

He conveyed gratitude toward the APC hierarchy across ward, local government, state, and national tiers for the backing and platforms extended to him throughout his tenure in the party.

Nevertheless, Shuwaki noted that he opted to pursue an alternative political pathway guided by personal convictions.

Reports suggested that having missed out on securing a re-election ticket for the assembly, the lawmaker may have looked elsewhere for future political prospects.

He mentioned that although his actual shift to the PDP occurred several months prior, ongoing political engagements were responsible for postponing the formal submission of his resignation paperwork to the legislature.

“I brought this letter to present it before the Assembly regarding my movement from the APC to the PDP,” he stated.

He likewise encouraged citizens to prioritize harmony and mutual respect irrespective of divergent political affiliations.

Falgore noted that the assembly leadership had engaged in persistent dialogues with the parliamentarian to evaluate whether he might reconsider his stance.

He confirmed that Shuwaki maintained an unyielding resolve to exit the ruling party, which led to the official reading of the letter during Monday’s session.

Following this latest political switch, the numerical strength of the APC caucus in the legislature dropped to 37, alongside two representatives from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and a single PDP member, completing the 40-seat composition of the state assembly.
