Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has criticized singer Davido’s call for United States President Donald Trump to intervene in the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.

Sani made his position known in a post on his X handle shortly after Davido’s appeal, asserting that those attempting to involve Trump in Nigeria’s electoral process were just wasting their time.

He argued that the US President has little interest in the credibility of elections in Africa, pointing to countries like Tanzania, Uganda, and Cameroon as case studies.

He said: “Those who are trying to drag Mr Trump into our elections are just wasting their time.

“Trump is not Obama or Biden. He has little interest in the credibility or otherwise of elections in Africa. The elections in Tanzania, Uganda and Cameroon are case studies.

“Mr Trump’s hands are full with the Strait of Hormuz, Gaza and Ukraine and, most importantly, his party is battling to survive the upcoming Senate and House of Representatives elections.”

Recall that Davido had earlier called on Trump to pay attention to the Osun State governorship election.

The singer made the appeal in a post on his X handle on Tuesday, expressing concerns over rising tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation and disruption of the democratic process ahead of the poll.
