Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, turned emotional on Sunday while receiving a congratulatory phone call from his nephew, the renowned Afrobeats artist David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, following his successful re-election bid.
Within a widely shared video circulating online, the governor looked visibly moved while conversing with the musician over the phone.
“Come and give me a hug,” Adeleke was heard saying during the call.
Prior to this, Davido took to X to celebrate his uncle’s triumph in Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
“We did it Unc,” the singer wrote.
Accompanying the post was a video showing Davido lying flat on the floor while his logistics manager, Israel DMW, hailed him by saying, “Congratulations boss.”
Davido campaigned vigorously for Adeleke throughout the entire election season, consistently voicing assurance that the governor would clinch a second term.
Adeleke was officially named the winner of the poll on Sunday after garnering 511,067 votes state-wide.
The incumbent governor, running under the banner of the Accord Party, outperformed his primary opponent, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who finished with 444,815 votes.
Adeleke secured victories in 19 out of the state’s 30 local government areas, whereas Oyebamiji claimed wins in 11.
This electoral win grants Adeleke a renewed mandate to lead Osun State for an additional four-year term.
