Dr Adedeji Adeleke, the father of Nigerian music superstar Davido and older brother to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has credited the family’s political triumph over former governor Gboyega Oyetola to profound religious faith rather than financial dominance.

Adeleke shared these insights while looking back at the electoral contest, maintaining that their success did not stem from having superior financial resources.

He claimed that a staggering ₦60 billion was expended during the election cycle, with individual votes allegedly trading for as much as ₦15,000 in specific localities.

“The only reason why we defeated him is not because we are bigger people and we spend more money than him,” he said.

According to Adeleke, he refrained from participating in such heavy spending on voting day.

Instead, he retreated to his private space, dropped to his knees, and prayed for divine intervention to shape the election results.

“When I had the kind of money they were spending, I went back to my little corner in my room and I knelt down and I prayed to God Almighty. I said, God Almighty, please let people collect their money, but let them still vote for us,” he said.

He further underscored that his assurance throughout the polls stemmed from his spiritual beliefs, characterizing his trust in God as the primary factor preventing him from feeling intimidated by the opposing camp.

“The reason why we defeated Oyetola and why I was not afraid was not because we have more money, we didn’t even spend any money on election day, it was because my belief in God Almighty is very strong,” Adeleke said.

The prominent businessman also discussed his personal devotion habits, disclosing that he studies and prays using multiple biblical scriptures on a daily basis.

He noted that his routine incorporates scriptural passages vital to his spiritual foundation, presenting this practice as an essential component of his testimony.

These remarks follow closely behind the enduring political dominance maintained by the Adeleke family within Osun State, highlighted by Ademola Adeleke’s recent successful re-election campaign where he edged out All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer Bola Oyebamiji.
