2027: Obi, Kwankwaso Movement Announces Decision Concerning Merger

The OK Movement, a political coalition designed to galvanize backing for Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential flagbearer Peter Obi alongside his running mate Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, has officially dismissed prospects of merging ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Representing a coalition of supporters from the Obidient Movement, Kwankwasiyya, and the New Nigeria People’s Party, the organization also dismissed speculations regarding an alleged plot to oust its founder and Director-General, John Ughulu.

The organization maintained that its grassroots framework remains fundamentally tied to Ughulu’s continued leadership.

These resolutions were detailed in an official communiqué released in Abuja, co-authored by Convener Ladipo Johnson and National Secretary Sadaatu Sani.

The group clarified its intent to operate as an autonomous entity while maintaining openness to collaboration with parallel organizations holding shared ideologies.

According to the statement, forced external coalitions risk fracturing ongoing strategic programs and diluting the distinct grassroots momentum cultivated by the platform.

“The Summit resolves that the OK Movement shall remain an independent organisation and shall not be merged into, or absorbed by any external political body.

“Independence does not mean isolation – we remain ready to coordinate closely with allied groups in pursuit of shared goals,” the document highlighted.

The OK Movement emphasized that preserving Ughulu’s leadership is critical due to his foundational contributions to the network’s local deployment.

Furthermore, leadership cautioned that unseating the Director-General or compromising the group’s autonomy could trigger structural collapse.

“The movement was built ward by ward, largely on the personal credibility of its founder with the volunteers who make up its ranks.

“Our loyalty is not to a title, but to the man who recruited, trained and stood with us.

“Should the Director-General be removed, or the movement’s independence set aside, the members have indicated that they would not continue to operate under the resulting arrangement,” Johnson noted.

Meanwhile, the executive leadership extended an olive branch to Jacky Wayas, urging her reintegration into the group as Director for Strategic Implementation and Planning under Ughulu’s administrative oversight.
