The Kano State Police Command has arrested five suspects, including a young man who severed his own finger after being promised an ₦80 million payout in an alleged ritual scheme.
Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed that the case began on August 29, 2026, when 27-year-old Yusuf Mahmuda of Rano LGA reported to the local station alleging he was defrauded after supplying a human finger to an associate who offered him ₦80 million.
Kiyawa explained that after failing to locate a victim, Mahmuda used a knife to cut off his own left-hand finger and delivered it to the mastermind, only to go to law enforcement when the money was not remitted.
Following a targeted investigation, police operatives apprehended Mahmuda along with four accomplices: Abdurrahman Abbas, 45; Abubakar Iliyasu, 35; Shu’aibu Awale, 55; and Ishaka Isa, 26.
The police recovered the severed finger alongside the weapon used in the act, subsequently arraigning all five suspects before the Sharia Court in Jogana on charges of criminal conspiracy and attempted witchcraft.
