Baba-Ahmed Reveals Who Can Stop Tinubu In 2027

Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has declared that only divine intervention can prevent President Bola Tinubu from securing victory in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during an interview on Trust TV broadcast on Friday, September 11, 2026, the former LP chieftain assessed the evolving political landscape and the prospects of major presidential contenders ahead of the next general election.

Although critical of the current administration’s policies, Baba-Ahmed acknowledged the president’s ability to construct durable political structures and forge strategic nationwide alliances over extended periods.

Highlighting Tinubu’s long-term strategy, he noted that the president spent 16 years building a political base and played a central role in convincing former President Muhammadu Buhari to join an alliance ahead of the 2015 election.

Acknowledging the president’s political groundwork, Baba-Ahmed stated, “Even though I don’t entirely agree with him, he did what others were not able to do. He organised for 16 years, not just plan. He organised for 16 years against all odds, he brought in Buhari from retirement. Buhari is from across the Niger. He stood for that.”

He described Tinubu’s emergence as president in 2023 as an exceptional political achievement, contrasting his strategy with that of African Democratic Congress candidate Atiku Abubakar.

Asserting that Tinubu currently exercises significant influence across Nigeria’s political environment, Baba-Ahmed argued that the incumbent retains the capacity to frustrate opposition efforts to form a unified front ahead of 2027.

He claimed, “He will not allow them to come together. He probably actually chooses candidates in the opposition parties. He installs leadership in those political parties. He does what you and I cannot imagine.”

Reiterating his projection regarding the 2027 contest, Baba-Ahmed concluded, “If Tinubu says something will happen, only God Almighty can stop it. If he says to be declared in 2027, only God Almighty can stop it.”

When asked whether his observations constituted praise or criticism, the former running mate remarked, “It is anybody’s business to interpret it anyhow. I only state the facts. And the fact is Nigeria now belongs to Tinubu.”
