Former Anambra State Governor and prominent political figure, Peter Obi, has declared that he lacks concrete evidence to substantiate his claim of winning the 2023 presidential election.

When explicitly pressed by the anchor to present evidence justifying his assertion, Obi remarked: “There’s no evidence. Everything is not based on evidence.”

He quickly added, “I won the election and that’s where I will end,” while deflecting further backward-looking inquiries by stating, “I don’t like going back to the past. I sustain what I said.”

The official results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) placed Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the February 25, 2023 poll, with Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) finishing second and Obi coming third.

Following the election, both Obi and Atiku mounted legal challenges at the Presidential Election Petition Court to nullify Tinubu’s victory. However, their petitions were dismissed for lack of merit, a decision subsequently affirmed by the Supreme Court.

During the same interview, Obi also clarified his policy stance on the controversial removal of fuel subsidy, dismissing claims that his public posture on the subject had wavered.

Responding to criticisms regarding his past statements, Obi stated: “I’ve not changed. What has changed is that whenever I talk about methodology, people say, oh, it has changed.”

He emphasized that his primary concern regarding fuel subsidy had always centered on dismantling the systemic corruption tied to the scheme.
