Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has hit back at the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accusing the party’s leadership and supporters of mounting a smear campaign against Rabiu Kwankwaso and Peter Obi following their recent political separation.

Sani’s reaction follows allegations by the ADC Presidential Campaign Council claiming that Kwankwaso’s support for Peter Obi was driven by personal ambition and aimed at working in favor of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Responding via a post on his official X handle, Sani asserted that the persistent attacks and conspiracy theories regarding Kwankwaso and Obi stem purely from bitterness over their political parting of ways.

Exposing the friction within the opposition ranks, Sani wrote, The ADC guys are still bitter about the Peter and Kwankwaso divorce, hence the smear that they are working for the ruling party or the President.

The former lawmaker emphasized that both figures have built robust, independent political standing over the decades and possess the democratic right to align or disalign with any political bloc as they see fit.

He noted, No consideration to the fact that they are all accomplished politicians with their own independent track records, and have the right to associate and disassociate.

According to Sani, the ongoing media backlash is the inevitable fallout of both politicians refusing to be manipulated or sidelined by political actors pursuing personal ambitions.

Strongly criticizing the ADC’s posture, Sani remarked, This is the price they will continue to pay for refusing to be supplementary, and disposable cargoes in someone’s container.

He added, They wanted to use them and sacrifice them for ritual in their perennial political expeditions. Political parties shouldn’t be cultish groups where one can’t pull out in peace.

Sani concluded by advising opposition parties to focus on genuine coalition-building and constructive engagement rather than resort to vilifying former allies who choose an independent path ahead of 2027.
