The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially postponed the inauguration and public unveiling of its National Presidential Campaign Council from October 20 to October 26, 2026.

Announcing the schedule adjustment in an official press statement on Monday, NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, confirmed that the inauguration ceremony will now take place on Monday, October 26, 2026.

Director attributed the postponement to international commitments requiring the presence of the party’s flagbearer, explaining that the shift was necessitated by the very tight schedule of our presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, who has a very important engagement overseas.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this shift and urge everyone not to lose focus on the goal of ensuring victory for our presidential candidate and all NDC candidates in the forthcoming presidential and general elections, Director stated.

The campaign council’s scheduled unveiling follows a strategic resolution by the NDC leadership granting Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, full authority to nominate key political figures to lead the party’s central campaign structure.

This leadership mandate came on the heels of friction between the NDC national executive and the OK Movement—an independent grassroots support group advocating for the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket—over parallel campaign organization attempts for the 2027 general elections.

On September 17, the OK Movement had constituted an independent 59-member campaign council, claiming it would operate separately from any central body established by the party hierarchy.

The NDC leadership promptly disowned the move, warning that unauthorized campaign councils risked destabilizing internal party cohesion ahead of official electioneering activities.

Although the support group initially defended its autonomy, the OK Movement subsequently reversed its decision earlier this month, acknowledging that its parallel campaign council setup had bypassed established organizational processes.

With internal alignment restored, NDC party leaders and loyalists are now focusing efforts toward the rescheduled inauguration on October 26 to launch a unified campaign structure.
