Demands Of ASUU From FG

The Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have reached an agreement to prevent the strike notice issued by the union.

On August 19, ASUU issued a 21-day strike notice following its NEC meeting at the University of Ibadan due to unmet demands.

After a meeting on Wednesday in Abuja, a sub-committee was established to review ASUU’s demands.

ASUU’s President expressed optimism that the issues would be resolved before the September 6 meeting.

The strike notice by ASUU is expected to elapse on Sept. 9, three days after the rescheduled meeting.

In addressing the demand of the union, the minister, earlier today, constituted an implementation monitoring committee of NEEDS Assessment intervention fund for Nigerian public universities

Demands Of ASUU

ASUU is calling for a thorough overhaul of the university system, which includes upgrading infrastructure, enhancing academic freedom, and establishing a more sustainable funding model.

The union also demands the release of revitalization funds for universities, renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, and payment of earned allowances for lecturers.

Additionally, they seek the deployment of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS).
