List Of States With Highest Number Of Applicants For NELFUND Loan

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has released data on student loan applicants by state. Launched by President Bola Tinubu in July, NELFUND aims to increase educational accessibility by covering tuition, fees, and maintenance costs, with repayment starting two years after NYSC completion.

Recent allocations saw over N2.5 billion distributed to more than 22,000 students nationwide, but notably, institutions in the Southeast were excluded.

Kano State leads with 17,122 loan applications out of 20,814 registered students, followed by Borno State with 13,798 applications from 16,353 students. Benue State is third with 11,754 applicants from 16,127 students.

Other states with significant applications include Oyo (8,990 out of 14,086), Kaduna (10,380 out of 13,873), and Katsina (10,952 out of 13,538). Osun, Kogi, Plateau, and Adamawa also show substantial application numbers.

States like Ogun, Akwa Ibom, and Bauchi reported fewer applicants relative to registrations, while Lagos and Anambra had lower application rates compared to their registration figures.

The Federal Capital Territory Abuja recorded 676 applications from 894 registrations.
