Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Party (NLC), was released on bail by the Department of State Security (DSS) around 11:25 p.m., just minutes before the midnight deadline set by unionists.
Ajaero had been detained earlier that morning at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja as he was preparing to fly to the United Kingdom for an official engagement.
He was scheduled to attend the British Trade Union Congress (TUC) conference in London, which began the previous day.
