The New Era Oodua Peoples Congress has criticized Gani Abiodun Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, for his recent remarks about President Bola Tinubu.
The group expressed disappointment in Adams’ comments, arguing that his criticisms of Tinubu were unwarranted and harmful to the unity of the Yoruba people.
In an open letter, Adams, the national leader of the OPC, had stated that President Tinubu had disappointed many Nigerians who supported his rise to power.

He also criticized Tinubu’s management of the petroleum sector, particularly the recent increase in petrol prices, claiming it has exacerbated the country’s hardships.
In response, Arogundade Rasak, the National President of New Era OPC, a faction of the OPC, issued a statement on Thursday calling it unfair and unjust for Adams to hold Tinubu accountable for the failings of previous administrations.
“Where Nigeria is today, is the result of several years of mismanagement of the economy by successive governments, beginning from the time of Alhaji Shehu Shagari and especially more so during the military era between 1984 and 1999 when governmental and executive lawlessness was made a norm; a tradition which still carries on today,” Arogundade said.
Arogundade stated that Tinubu’s administration is establishing a strong foundation for effective governance and urged Nigerians to be patient as Tinubu’s policies begin to produce results.
“What it takes for a country like ours to succeed is for the citizenry to realise that we are the author of our problems, and the solution therefore remains squarely with us. We cannot end corruption in the country if we continue to nurture our corrupt acts in the corners of our homes,” he said.
