BREAKING: FG, Labour Sign MoU On ₦70, 000 New Minimum Wage

The Federal Government and the Labour Union have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the new ₦70,000 minimum wage.

In a statement released on Friday by the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation and signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations, Eno Olotu, it was announced that the committee on civil servants’ salaries agreed to implement the new minimum wage starting July 29, 2024.

This agreement was part of the resolutions reached at the committee’s meeting in Abuja on Friday.

The statement also highlighted that the committee recommended the reinstatement of the wage award, previously discontinued by the Federal Government, to be paid until July 28, 2024.

The committee, chaired by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, noted that the government took the country’s economic conditions into consideration when making these decisions.

After the signing, Walson-Jack, who also served as the committee’s chair, praised the members for their diligent efforts in fulfilling their mandate.

The HCSF said, “Both the Trade Union and the Government sides have agreed on the Consequential Adjustments in Salaries arising from the new minimum wage of N70,000.

She further revealed that all members thoroughly reviewed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and signed copies, concluding the process by distributing them to representatives from both sides.

Describing the assignment as the shortest and most peaceful negotiation to date, she added that the signed MOU would now be forwarded to the Federal Government for further action.

In his remarks, Comrade Benjamin Anthony, National Chairman of the Joint Negotiating Council, representing the Trade Union side, praised the Head of Civil Service of the Federation and expressed satisfaction with the committee’s efforts.
