Nigeria continues to grapple with a severe food crisis, as new data from the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) reveals that rising flood levels have impacted at least 115,265 hectares of farmland.
Among the worst-hit states are Bauchi with 50,343 hectares affected, Taraba with 22,182 hectares, Jigawa with 9,919 hectares, Niger with 9,488 hectares, and Sokoto with 8,676 hectares.

Other states impacted include Adamawa with 3,392 hectares, Bayelsa with 170 hectares, Borno with 313 hectares, Ebonyi with 100 hectares, Enugu with 953 hectares, Gombe with 1,311 hectares, Kaduna with 120 hectares, Kano with 3,072 hectares, Katsina with 37 hectares, Kebbi with 3,382 hectares, Yobe with 223 hectares, and Zamfara with 1,584 hectares.
The NEOC’s 2024 flood report also indicates that 29 states, 154 local government areas, and 611,201 people have been affected. The flooding has displaced 225,169 individuals, impacted 83,457 households, resulted in 201 fatalities, and caused 2,119 injuries.
This data emerges amid ongoing food shortages and an inflation rate exceeding 40 percent, as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
