Why Delta Government Is Delaying New Minimum Wage – Oborevwori

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has announced that the state government has not yet begun implementing the new minimum wage, as it is waiting for the federal government’s “template.”

The governor made this statement on Tuesday in Asaba, the state capital, during a thanksgiving service for his principal secretary, Lyna Ocholor, who recently retired from the civil service.

Mrs. Ocholor is also a former clerk of the Delta State House of Assembly.

Oborevwori explained that the delay is to avoid errors in calculating the consequential adjustments to the new minimum wage.

He also expressed gratitude to the state assembly staff for their support during his tenure as Speaker of the 6th and 7th assemblies.

“We are waiting for the chart of the new minimum wage because we don’t want to make any mistake,” he said.
