BREAKING: How Police Forced Obaseki Out Of INEC Office

A dramatic scene unfolded at around 4:10 a.m. when Governor Godwin Obaseki was escorted out of the premises of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Benin by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Frank Mba.

Obaseki had entered the premises unannounced at approximately 2 a.m., reportedly to protest alleged anomalies in the collation of results from certain local government areas, including his own, Oredo.

INEC officials had informed him that he had no right to be there, just as they had previously turned back the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo. However, Obaseki allegedly insisted on staying.

Around 3 a.m., a combined security team of police officers, led by DIG Frank Mba, and soldiers arrived at the scene. By 4:10 a.m., they escorted the governor off the premises, with security personnel repeatedly telling him, “Leave, leave.”

Just before Obaseki was removed, All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretary, Surajudeen Basiru, addressed journalists, stating that the governor had no justification for being at the INEC premises during the election process.

Basiru said, “He is not a candidate. He has no reason to be here”, describing the governor’s action as abuse of office.
