The Ogun State Police Command on Sunday confirmed the death of a 35-year-old zoo worker, Babaji Daule, at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, who was killed by a lion on Saturday.
In a statement released to journalists, the state police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, revealed that Daule, a native of Bauchi State and a lion handler, had reportedly forgotten to secure the locks and barricade the lion’s enclosure before attempting to feed the animal.

This lapse reportedly enabled the lion to escape and attack the handler, inflicting severe neck injuries that led to his death.
The victim’s body was later taken to the mortuary at Ijaye General Hospital. Meanwhile, the wild lion was shot in order to release its grip on the handler.
