A member of the House of Representatives representing Ukwa East/West in Abia State, Chris Nkwonta, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection was announced during Wednesday’s plenary session by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas in Abuja.

In reaction, Deputy Minority Leader Aliyu Madaki, citing a section of the constitution, called for Nkwonta’s seat to be declared vacant.
However, the Speaker responded by stating that he is aware of a faction within the PDP.
