Human rights activist and #RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore, has criticized former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, for questioning the silence of Nigerian youths in the face of economic hardship under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Sowore accused Amaechi, a former Rivers State governor and transport minister under President Muhammadu Buhari, of being one of the leaders responsible for destroying Nigeria and suppressing the potential of Nigerian youths to bring about change.
Amaechi had voiced his disappointment over Nigerians’ subdued response to the current economic challenges.

In an interview with ABN TV, he expressed surprise at the calmness with which Nigerians, especially the youth, have reacted to the rising cost of living, fuel prices, and other economic pressures.
He said, “I expected more agitation, especially from the youth. I thought we would see protests in the streets, but it seems people are not expressing the kind of anger I expected.”
Amaechi added, “You cannot have a situation where a group of people are mismanaging resources and expect citizens to remain silent. I am truly baffled by the lack of action.
“The price of diesel is at an all-time high, and even some of us are finding it difficult to afford it. Yet, the general public seems unmoved.”
In response to the former minister’s remarks, Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), expressed disappointment that certain Nigerian “elders,” who have contributed to the country’s decline, now expect the youths they have suppressed and denied leadership opportunities to rectify the situation.
In a post on his X account on Thursday, Sowore said, “Nigerian ‘Elders’ will create a mess and turn around to ask ‘youths’ to clean up after them.
“When the ‘youths’ show up to lead, they turn around and accuse the same ‘youths’ of lacking experience (of course, using the same ‘youths’ to make this absurdity argument).”
Sowore stated that the only way to address Nigeria’s current leadership and economic challenges is through revolution.

Former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, expressed his frustration with Nigerians’ response to the current economic challenges.
In an interview with Igbere TV, Amaechi, who is also a former governor of Rivers State, stated that he expected the youth to take to the streets in protest against the rising cost of living.
However, he noted that there has been no significant action or indication that they are truly serious about addressing the situation.

Former Minister of Transportation Chibuike Amaechi has said that he is angry with the way Nigerians are responding to the current economic challenges.
Amaechi made this known in an interview with Igbere TV.
The former governor of Rivers State also said he expected youths to storm different streets and protest against the high cost of living but he has not seen anything that shows that they are serious.
