Rivers Councillorship Candidates Reveal Position On Contesting LG Election Results

The Coalition of Councillorship Candidates for the 2024 local government elections in Rivers State has pledged not to challenge the results of the October 5 elections in court.

Akwu Chilegide Jonathan, Chairman of the Forum and Accord Party Councillorship Candidate for Ward 1 in Emohua Local Government Area, announced this decision during a press conference following their meeting in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Saturday.

“We will not contest the election results in court to promote peace and collective development in Rivers State and support Governor Siminalayi Fubara at this time,” Jonathan disclosed.

Acknowledging that the election results were not in their favor, Jonathan highlighted the Coalition’s dedication to promoting peace and unity within Rivers State.

He reflected on the valuable insights gained from their grassroots interactions, stressing the need for inclusive representation in governance, where every citizen’s voice matters, regardless of political affiliation or background.

The Coalition condemned recent acts of vandalism against local government offices and called on law enforcement to hold those responsible accountable.

Jonathan also expressed the Coalition’s willingness to support Governor Siminalayi Fubara, urging him to prioritize collaboration with them to address grassroots needs.

Cyril Nwaoma, the Coalition’s Secretary, echoed Jonathan’s remarks, emphasizing that all candidates had invested considerable time and effort into the elections.

He noted their commitment to utilizing their organizational structures for the benefit of the state.

The Coalition urged the youth of Rivers State to avoid unlawful actions and resist exploitation, reaffirming their commitment to supporting Governor Fubara.

Nwaoma called on the governor to involve the Coalition at the grassroots level, stressing the importance of cooperation among candidates for the collective growth and development of Rivers State.

Following the elections, the Coalition of Chairmanship Candidates also expressed their support for Governor Fubara, advocating for peace and unity in the state.
