The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that Peter Obi’s camp actively lobbied him before the 2023 presidential elections.
As the elections approached, Wike declined to support either Obi, the Labour Party candidate, or Atiku Abubakar, the candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party. Instead, he backed Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress.

During a luncheon on Saturday honoring the 10th Rivers State Assembly in Port Harcourt, Wike mentioned that Obi’s team has been critical of him for not endorsing their candidate.
He reiterated that, despite their persistent lobbying, he remained resolute in his decision not to support Obi’s presidential bid.
“Obi’s group lobbied me so much. They can’t deny it. I told them, ‘This will not work. Rivers State will not follow a path that doesn’t align with us… It will not succeed.’ There is a conspiracy, and they are fighting back. But in reality, they are fighting amongst themselves.”
