President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda to replace Betta Edu as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
In January, Tinubu suspended Edu and initiated an investigation into the transfer of N585.2 million into the private bank account of a civil servant responsible for managing grants for vulnerable Nigerians.

The president also directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to conduct a thorough review of the ministry’s financial transactions, which encompassed Nigeria’s entire social investment programs.
Edu denied any wrongdoing, stating that the transfer was approved for the purpose of implementing grants for vulnerable groups.
However, the Accountant General’s office clarified that such funds should be transferred directly from government accounts to the beneficiaries.
