Doyin Okupe, a former presidential spokesman, praised President Bola Tinubu’s decision to eliminate “superfluous ministries” in his recent cabinet reshuffle, noting that KPMG played a key role in the dismissal of certain ministers.
Okupe, who previously served as the director-general of the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Organisation, shared his thoughts during an interview on Thursday in Lagos.

“President Tinubu has done the needful by his mid-term rejig of his cabinet. Scrapping superfluous ministries is in line with removing waste and making government compact and effective. This is commendable.
“For the first time, removal of ministers from the cabinet has not been arbitrary or sentimental, apart from an in-house key performance index report.
“KPMG is also said to be involved in critical performance assessment of the ministers,” Mr Okupe explained.
The politician stated that Nigerians are looking to the president and his new cabinet to take decisive action and tackle the nation’s challenges.
He expressed optimism about Mr. Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” as a means to reposition the country.
“As I have personally stated in the past, President Tinubu has the capacity and leadership qualities to take Nigeria out of the economic quagmire he met on assumption of office in May 2023,” Mr Okupe said.

On Wednesday, President Tinubu dismissed five ministers and appointed seven new ones, aiming to enhance his administration’s effectiveness in fulfilling its commitments to Nigerians.
The ministers who were relieved of their duties include Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Women Affairs), Lola Ade-John (Tourism), Tahir Mamman (Education), Abdullahi Gwarzo (State Minister for Housing and Urban Development), and Jamila Bio Ibrahim (Youth Development).
The new appointments are as follows: Nentawe Yilwatda as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Muhammadu Dingyadi as Minister of Labour and Employment; Bianca Odumegu-Ojukwu as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Jumoke Oduwole as Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment; Idi Maiha as Minister of Livestock Development; Yusuf Ata as State Minister for Housing and Urban Development; and Suwaiba Ahmad as State Minister for Education.
Additionally, Shehu Dikko has been appointed as chairman of the National Sports Commission, while Sunday Dare will serve as the president’s special adviser on public communication and orientation, under the Ministry of Information and National Orientation.
The president has also restructured the Ministry of Niger Delta Development, renaming it the Ministry of Regional Development, which will oversee all regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission, South-East Development Commission, North-East Development Commission, and North-West Development Commission.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Sports Development will be dissolved, with its functions transferred to the National Sports Commission to foster a thriving sports economy. The Federal Ministry of Tourism and the Federal Ministry of Arts and Culture will merge to form the new Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy.
In total, ten ministers have been reassigned to new portfolios as part of this reshuffle.
