Kano Governor Takes Decision On Court Ruling Stopping Saturday’s LG Election

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has reaffirmed that the Local Government election scheduled for October 26, 2024, will proceed as planned, despite a Federal High Court ruling that invalidated the election.

The court’s decision cited concerns over the presence of card-carrying NNPP members in executive roles within the election commission.

Yusuf emphasized this commitment while distributing NNPP flags to the 44 chairmanship and councilorship candidates at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium on Thursday evening.

He said, “At this moment, the state will not allow anybody to destabilize the existing peace being enjoyed by the citizenry.”

He believes that both the state government and the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission have the constitutional authority to conduct the election.

“We have satisfied all the conditions laid down by the law and we have completed all necessary preparations for the conduct of the elections on Saturday, as such, the polls must take place as planned.

“We are aware of plans by enemies of the state to truncate this election, but by the grace of Allah, they will not succeed; the elections will be conducted peacefully and credibly,” Yusuf said.

He emphasized that the state government is prepared to officially recognize the candidates declared winners by the electoral body.

The governor encouraged NNPP members to return to their wards and prepare diligently for the election, referring to them as the party’s true supporters.

He expressed confidence that the party would secure all 44 chairmanship positions and 484 council seats, given the overwhelming support it has received from the people.

In his comments, Acting National Chairman of NNPP, Dr. Audu Ajuji, conveyed optimism for a peaceful election, stating that the party is confident it will win all elective positions without any obstacles.

Additionally, state NNPP Chairman Hashimu Dungurawa highlighted the impressive turnout at the event, calling it a remarkable gathering of supporters.
