Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order halting the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from continuing to release monthly financial allocations to the Rivers State Government.
The judge determined that the receipt and distribution of these allocations by Governor Siminalayi Fubara since January of this year constituted a breach of the Constitution and represented an unacceptable deviation from legal norms.
Justice Abdulmalik stated that Fubara’s presentation of the 2024 budget to a four-member Rivers House of Assembly violated constitutional provisions.
Furthermore, the judge emphasized that the governor’s actions amounted to a serious infringement of the 1999 Constitution.
As a result, she has restrained the CBN, the Accountant General of the Federation, Zenith Bank, and Access Bank from permitting Fubara to access funds from the Consolidated Revenue and Federation Account.
