Kamala Harris will not be addressing her supporters on election night, her campaign announced Wednesday, as Donald Trump moved closer to victory in the tense U.S. presidential race.
“You won’t hear from the vice president tonight but you will hear from her tomorrow,” Cedric Richmond, Harris campaign co-chair, told a watch party at Howard University in Washington.

The polarizing Republican’s victory, after one of the most contentious campaigns in recent American history, is especially striking given his recent criminal conviction, a narrowly avoided assassination attempt, and cautions from a former chief of staff labeling him a “fascist.”
“It’s a political victory that our country has never seen before,” Trump told a victory party in Florida.
Vice President Harris, who entered the race in July after President Joe Biden stepped down, ran a centrist campaign that focused on countering Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric and his use of overtly racist and sexist tropes.
However, Trump’s dire warnings about immigration and promotion of isolationism resonated with voters worn down by the post-Covid economy and seeking an alternative to the Biden administration.
The campaign suggested a nail-bitingly close contest, but the results came in surprisingly quickly, delivering a decisive victory that included wins in the swing states of Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
Trump has become the first president in over a century to secure a non-consecutive second term.
