Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has pleaded not guilty to the 16-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Bello made his plea after honoring the commission’s invitation on Tuesday.
The EFCC has filed a case alleging fraud of up to N110 billion against the former governor. Dressed in a white kaftan and blue cap, Bello appeared in court accompanied by EFCC officials.
He was arraigned before Justice Maryanne Anenih at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court.

Bello is being prosecuted alongside two other defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, who are named as the 1st to 3rd defendants in the fresh 16-count charge.
While Oricha and Hudu were granted administrative bail, Bello remains the primary defendant in the case.
At the previous court hearing on November 14, the EFCC requested an adjournment until November 27, noting that the 30-day window for responding to a summons issued to Bello was still open.
The commission also sought an extension of time for the 1st defendant’s appearance, while Oricha and Hudu were admitted to administrative bail.
