Ibori’s Daughter Dumps PDP For APC

Erhriatake Ibori-Suenu, the member of the House of Representatives representing Ethiope Federal Constituency of Delta State, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mrs. Ibori-Suenu, the daughter of former Delta Governor James Ibori, made the announcement in a letter addressed to Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, which was read on the floor of the House on Thursday.

The lawmaker won the 2023 election on the PDP platform, despite her father’s political differences with former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. James Ibori, a close ally of President Bola Tinubu, had a fallout with Okowa over the choice of a gubernatorial candidate in 2023.

Ibori supported David Edebvie for the ticket, but Okowa managed to secure the nomination of Sheriff Oborevwori through the party primary.

James Ibori visited President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa early in Tinubu’s administration, as both are part of the 1999/2007 class of governors.

Following the defection announcement on the House floor, Minority Whip Ali Isa protested and called for the declaration of Ibori-Suenu’s seat as vacant.

However, the Speaker ignored the call, as is customary in such situations.
