President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a salary increase for members of Nigeria’s armed forces.
The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, announced this on Friday in a statement released by the ministry’s spokesperson, Henshaw Ogubike.
In addition to the salary increase, the government has also approved the payment of three months’ salary arrears.

Furthermore, funds have been allocated to clear outstanding pensions and entitlements owed to retired military personnel.
Matawalle confirmed that alerts regarding the salary increase have already begun reaching military personnel, marking a significant morale boost for the armed forces.
He praised President Tinubu for his steadfast commitment to both serving and retired military members, emphasizing that resolving pension arrears for retirees remains a top priority.
“Despite initial setbacks, be rest assured that the President will do everything within his power to uplift our military forces as they confront the challenges of insecurity,” he stated.
