Tinubu Makes New Appointments Aimed To Drive Development In South East

President Bola Tinubu announced significant changes to the proposed leadership of the South East Development Commission on Saturday, with an updated list already submitted to the Senate for confirmation.

The revised nominations, which were unveiled on December 6, 2024, are designed to bolster the Commission’s ability to drive development in the South East region.

Notably, President Tinubu replaced the initially nominated chairman, Emeka Atuma, with Dr. Emeka Nworgu.

Atuma had been named earlier in a separate announcement on Friday, alongside other appointments for the North West Development Commission.

In addition to the change in leadership, the updated list also includes adjustments to the executive board.

A statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the reshuffling, which was shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.

Key changes include:

The replacement of all three initial executive director nominees.
The appointment of two new executive directors: Stanley Ohajuruka as Executive Director of Finance, taking over from Anthony Ugbo; and Toby Okechukwu as Executive Director of Projects, succeeding Obinna Obiekweihe.
Chief Sylvester Okonkwo will now serve as the Executive Director of Corporate Services, replacing Dr. Daniel Ikechukwu Ugwuja.

Additionally, two new board members, Chidi Echeazu and Dr. Clifford Ogbede, have been appointed as executive directors without specific portfolios.

Despite these changes, several original nominees have been retained, including Ugochukwu H. Agballah, Okey Ezenwa, Chief Hyacinth Ikpor, Ifeanyi Agwu, Nasiru Usman, Hamma Adama Ali Kumo, Edward David Onoja, Orure Kufre Inima, and Chief (Mrs.) Joke Adebayo-Chukwuma.

One notable exclusion is Donatus Eyinnah Nwankpa, who was removed from the board.

Mark C. Okoye, who currently serves as the Managing Director/CEO, remains in his role, ensuring continuity at the Commission’s helm.
